There are certain places on Islay where you can expect certain wildlife when the conditions are right. One of those places is the Woodland at the Loch Gruinart RSPB reserve. There are usually some four to five Roe Deer around, especially in the winter when there are fewer walkers. The woods act as a wonderful quiet shelter from the winter storms.
This picture of the Geese over Loch Indaal was taken during a walk to the old peat banks of Bruichladdich Distillery, above Conisby, on a cold and frosty morning in February. There was hardly any wind and with the sun coming up it was magic, Islay at its best!
Starting at Kilchiaran Farm there is a track going up hill to the former WW2 radio station. Once there you have fantastic views over most parts of Islay and the area with high sand dunes backing the beautiful Kilchoman Beach. Details are visible which are usually out of sight when you walk the Kilchoman beach.
